Ahead of the goblin lumber parties Avernos, the Lord of Lies, led his force of abyssals and their twisted dwarf allies deeper into the Forest of Galahir. Desperate to prevent the rape of her land the Green Lady at the head of a cabal of elven magi brought the biting cold of winter to the forest, but the flurries of snow and hail were barely able to slow the abyssals, nevermind halt them.
At the overgrown ruins of a temple abandoned since the fall of Primovantor the Lord of Lies met the hastily thrown together army of elves.

Seizing the initiative, Avernos threw his forces forward, on the right flank a flock of gargoyles landed behind the collapsed walls and bided there time to reak havoc on the elven host.
Meanwhile hordes of tortured souls and molochs advanced under the watchful eye of Avernos and his efreet conjuror, whose combined power wracked a force of drakon riders with lightning and flame.
The Iron caster gestured and his golems shambled slowly towards the waiting line of elves.

The Drakons skulked off behind the forest and the Green lady salved their wounds, they would return to exact revenge. Meanwhile a regiment of palace guard advanced to secure the temple ruins while the dragon shouldered trees aside as it belched flames across the efreet as if in mockery of the damage he had moments before inflicted on it's smaller kin.
The kindred archers, their shots enchanted by a mage, darkened the skies as they attempted stop golems advance, but the swarms of smaller imps obscured their intended targets and suffered the darts themselves.

Avernos watched as the efreet was wreathed in flame, whether it survived or not mattered little to him as, with a snap of his leathery wings, he swooped into the forest to face the elfling on his lizard! The gargoyles seeing a horde of spear points ahead and the guard creeping through the ruins on their left took to the skies and landed behind their foes, the chattering and screeching alerting and threating the elves. The rest of the army pushed on and the Iron caster summoned dark energies to push the lesser golems onwards almost into the cavalry facing them, a tide of stone and lava bearing down. Avernos' lightning bolt scarce managed to scorch the dragon's hide though.

The cavalry spurred their steeds into the constructs before them, barely able to get into a gallop before they clashed, sensing the danger to the stormwind cavalry a regiment of palace guard charged to support them, deftly wielding axes and swords almost the height of a man. On the far flank the other guard reinforced the ruins while the tall spears at a single word pivoted in place, as if on a parade ground rather than a battle field, facing the bat winged fiends behind them. Meanwhile the Drakons returned positioning themselves to try to ward off the giant molochs.

The famed elven shooting dealt with the last of the imps who sought to approach them and the dragon lord, playing cat and mouse with the Lord of Lies commanded his steed to unleash another gout of flames on the unnatural general.
The combined might of stormwind knights and palace guard was too much for the golems, and the ruinous energy that held them was shattered, littering the ground with shards of black rock.

As the rubble that was the golem landed the elven line stood exposed to his forces. Seeing his chance Avernos bellowed his battle cry, which was taken up by his closest troops and the abyssals surged forward into the fragile forms of the elves. The gargoyles dove towards the spears but suddenly banked and attacked the flank of the archers.

the kindred archers fended off the claws of the gargoyles and counter charged those who could drew their swords, others simply swung their bows as the monsters attempted to take flight again. The Drakons seeing their kith and kin ripped apart by the abyssals sought to better position themselves for a killing blow and flew above the battlefield landing behind the lines of the enemy. The Green Lady, unable even with her vaunted magics, fled back to the relative safety of the archers as they butchered the gargoyles. The regiment of guard occupying the ruins charged into imps in a copse of trees, who were stripping the bark with their teeth and claws, and skewered the annoying creatures in petty revenge for the decimation of their own ranks

Avernos looked up from the dying dragon as he pulled his sword from it's neck. The tide was turning in his favour, with a few quick orders he took to the sky to seek out the Green Lady. The giant golem and writhing horde of tortured souls charged across the body strewn field and into the trees that hid the archers. But Avernos' lieutenants were too over confident in their own prowess, and instructing their minions to observe real power, the efreet and iron caster masked the drakon riders in flame and smoke. But when it had cleared they still stood! Worse still hampered by the trees the tortured souls and golem were unable to bring their full weight to bear and despite inflicting heavy damage on the kindred archers, they were repulsed as the green lady stiffened the elves resolve.

The gods of war are ever fickle, the smoldering drakons tore through the iron caster and into the tortured souls lance and claws rending the bodies and hopefully finally freeing the souls of those lost people. The archers bathed in magic watched as blood stopped flowing and wounds sealed themselves, imbued with new vitality they pushed back the golem and slaughtered the tortured souls that faced them. The tallspears marched forward through the ruins as the palace guard headed to the aid of their friends.

Beckoned on by their master the gargoyles flew to him, meanwhile Avernos glided towards the palace guard, a bolt of lightning distracting them from any thoughts of helping their friends, before he smashed into their ranks, but the well trained mortals held him at bay
The efreet summoned all his power and incinerated the drakon riders, he would pay a heavy penance for his failure to deal with them adequately after the battle he knew. The magics still held the Greater Golem solidly despite the death of it's controller and lacking any other orders it continued to mechanically smash fists the size of boulders into the meat sacks before it.

Despite their losses the elves still held the advantage of numbers if only they could make them tell. The spearmen neared the edge of the temple ruins in time to see the bloodied palace guard charge into the 3 meter tall demon. Once again the Green Lady salved the wounds of the archers encourging them into another push, yew bows and swords against granite skin, and once again they fell back unable to inflict any noticeable damage on the monster.

As golem and gargoyles clashed into the kindred archers the efreet, borne aloft by fel magics, flew towards the elven spearmen. Eager to make amends for his lackluster performance he threw ball after ball of flames against them, but they wisely kept their heads down.
Avernos prepared to finish off the remaining guardsmen when a cry of disbelief from behind him informed him that somehow the archers still stood.

with a cry the spearmen raced to the aid of the archers, they spilled out of the ruins like a wave over rocks and fell upon the efreet, his corpse trampled into the freezing mud as they ran the gargoyles through from behind before redressing the ranks to face the blue skinned demon who had butchered so many this day. The Green Lady knowing that the archers could take no more ordered a retreat as she interposed herself between them and the moving mountain. If only they could hold on until reinforcements arrived.

But there was no more time, the sound of goblin horns sounded all around, and Avernos offered the Green Lady the chance to join him. Knowing that the battle was lost, but the war may still turn she fled the field on wings of fear leaving the fatigued elves to their fate.

woe to the vanquished

I really do not like the unfilled support of the bases. But the report itself is written with a maniacal attention to detail and tactics, which causes respect!
PS – but the snacks on the table are clearly superfluous, if it was not lunch time …

thanks Devean, working out how to use the program and then writing the report was more stress than playing Dave’s elves 😉

cheers Corathan, some rookie mistakes in that game, but since it was my first time playing the list I can live with it.
Also I need to take more pictures and better notes, next time will be better 😉
