Edge of the Abyss

The Ratkin encountered an army of mercenary Ogres having accepted the terms of the Dwarf king Golloch and fighting alongside his armies in the defence of the Halpi Mountains.

As the armies faced off, the Ogres took the initiative and started rushing towards the Ratkin lines. As they moved they started noticing bizarre contraptions amongst the Ratkin lines. Their potency was quickly revealed as they opened fire on the Ogre chariots and hunters causing a large number of casualties.
The Ogres continued to push towards the Ratkin line as the Ogre boomers stopped to fire at what seemed like the largest contraption racing straight towards them, blasting huge chunks out of it but not stopping its momentum.
Battle was finally met as the Ogre chariots charged into a horde of spear-wielding Rats while the death engine slammed into the Ogre boomers. On the other flank of the battle a giant came to blows with an enourmous mutated rat-beast. In the center of the battle a weapon team, who had been too eager to use their weapon, were slaughtered by a horde of Ogre warriors.
Some of the Ogre units faltered as the Ratkin shooting continued to wreck havoc amongst their lines. The Ogres, however, proved that they could compete with such firepower as an entire unit of frenzied and diseased rats were destroyed in one salvo.
The Ogre chariots, having lost too many of their numbers to the ranged attacks, broke on the wall of spears. The Ogre standard bearer was eager to charge through a forest to hit the flank of the death engine. In his eagerness he was too late to spot the Ratkin cavalry charging towards him. After a grueling melee the Ogre boomers and standard bearer were destroyed. With the left flank secure the spear warriors, death engine and cavalry moved towards the centre of the battle. On the right flank the rat fiend, having regenerated the wounds almost as fast as the giant could inflict them, was feasting on the remains of the giant. The center and main strength of the Ogre army was held up by swarms of small vermin which prevented them from charging the large hordes of shock troops and rat warriors. When they finally met in battle the Ogres were greatly outnumbered and. In a last feat of resistance the entire horde of Ratkin warriors went up in flames as the Ogre wizard targeted them. The numbers had proven too much for the Ogres as they fought to the last Ogre. The Ratkin had won the day.

The Abyssal Dwarfs were surprised yet pleased with the sudden help of the Ratkin to destroy their kin. However, nothing is ever as it seems when the ever scheming Ratkin are involved. They had not forgotten, and their true intentions would be revealed in due time.
